Granite is a timeless finish that has been fitted in commercial and residential buildings around the world for centuries. Like most fitted products the true beauty and finish are only achieved with good craftsmanship. Granite worktop installation is critical to the structural and aesthetic beauty of the finished product. Years of experience is required to correctly appreciate the delicate nature of the material.
Fitting Granite:
We typically manufacture and customise all required Granite and Marble pieces with pre-polished edges in our Nairobi factory prior to transportation to clients sites for installation. This ensures we are able to use the very best machinery and equipment and quality check systems in a controlled factory environment. Carefully factory crafted material makes successful installation much easier.
Onsite fitting experience and skilled staff are essential to achieving high-quality jobs. Our team of skilled staff and supervisors have extensive experience in both commercial and residential projects and are able to achieve some of the best finishes possible in Kenya. Over our 90+ years experience in the trade, we have come across almost all perceivable issues that can arise during installation and are able to preemptively anticipate concerns before they become major hurdles.
Granite Worktop Installation Errors:
There are several errors that are prevalent and very common when fitting Granite worktops.
Insufficient support
Granite is naturally heavy and as a result, all kitchen cabinets need to be correctly fitted and fastened to the wall. There should also be a solid surface on top of the cabinets such as timber or cement prior to fitting the Granite. European kitchens are frequently fitted simply resting on the kitchen carcass, however, this is not common or recommended for Kenyan homes in our experience.
Unleveled surfaces
Kitchen cabinets should be 100% level and checked with a spirit level prior to fitting Granite. Mistakenly inexperienced companies assume that the Granite can somehow be levelled during installation by packing the back surface to achieve the correct level. Although it is possible to level Granite worktops in this way, it is best practice to correctly level cabinets and only compensate for small discrepancies in this way.
Island Breakfast Bar Granite Worktop Support
It is very fashionable to have a large slab of Granite in the middle of the kitchen, many clients want a large allowance for leg room to be able to use the surface as a breakfast table. Correct installation requires careful consideration of the weight of the Granite and the support provided, and whilst aesthetics are important, it is imperative to ensure safety by fitting sufficient support.
